Tolo Harbour & Plover Cove, up close

Tolo Harbour and the adjoining Plover Cove Reservoir sit in the north-eastern New Territories, a sheltered, largely residential stretch of coast that trades urban density for water views and flat cycling paths.

Plover Cove Reservoir

An unusual reservoir formed by damming off a former sea inlet rather than a valley — already mentioned in our Tai Po guide, with a cycling path running much of its perimeter (see our cycling guide).

Tolo Harbour

A calm, sheltered body of water separating the mainland New Territories from the Sai Kung peninsula, historically important for fishing and now popular for casual boating and waterside walks rather than any single major attraction.

University campus views

The Chinese University of Hong Kong's hillside campus overlooks part of the harbour, and its public areas offer a quiet, green vantage point rarely visited by tourists.

Getting there

Reachable via the MTR East Rail Line to University or Tai Po Market stations, followed by a short bus ride or walk depending on the specific spot — best combined with Tai Po or a cycling day rather than visited as a standalone destination.
