Clearwater Bay, up close
Clearwater Bay occupies a hilly peninsula east of Sai Kung, considerably less developed and less visited than most of the New Territories covered elsewhere on this site — genuinely quiet, with some of the clearest coastal water in Hong Kong, as the name suggests.
The beaches
Clear Water Bay's two main beaches are consistently rated among the cleanest and least crowded easily reached beaches in the territory, backed by hills rather than dense development.
Clearwater Bay Country Park
A network of coastal trails covers much of the peninsula, with the Tin Ha Shan and High Junk Peak trails offering sweeping views over the surrounding bays and out toward the outlying islands.
Hong Kong's film studio history
The area has a long association with Hong Kong's film industry — Shaw Studios, once a major production base for the martial arts films covered in our cinema history guide, was based nearby, and the peninsula's varied coastal scenery made it a popular filming location for decades.
Getting there
Reachable by bus from Choi Hung or Diamond Hill MTR stations — not on the MTR network directly, which is part of why it has stayed quieter than more accessible parts of the New Territories.
