Repulse Bay & Deep Water Bay, up close

Repulse Bay and neighbouring Deep Water Bay sit on the Island's south coast, giving a genuinely different, more suburban and beach-oriented side of Hong Kong Island just a short bus ride over the ridge from Central.

Repulse Bay Beach

One of the most popular and easily reached beaches on the Island, backed by a strip of restaurants and cafés, and busy with both swimmers and picnicking families on weekends.

The Kwun Yam Shrine

At the beach's southern end, an eclectic shrine complex dedicated to the goddess of mercy, filled with statues, a small pagoda and a "longevity bridge" — a striking, slightly surreal contrast to the beach itself.

Deep Water Bay

A quieter, smaller beach just north of Repulse Bay, with a golf course occupying much of the surrounding headland and a noticeably more residential, low-key feel.

Getting there

Regular buses run from Central and Causeway Bay over Wong Nai Chung Gap, with the journey itself giving a good view back over the Island's hills before descending to the coast.
