Aberdeen, up close

Aberdeen was a major fishing port long before Hong Kong Island's north shore urbanised, and its harbour still holds a working fleet of fishing boats and houseboats alongside its more touristed floating restaurants.

The typhoon shelter

Aberdeen Harbour is a designated typhoon shelter, packed with boats of every size — sampan operators run short harbour tours past the fishing fleet and the moored houseboats.

Ap Lei Chau

A small island connected by bridge, historically a boat-building centre and now home to both a large public housing estate and a growing furniture and homeware shopping strip.

Getting there

Well served by bus and increasingly by MTR since the South Island Line opened, making it an easy add-on to a visit to Ocean Park next door.
