Yau Ma Tei, up close
Yau Ma Tei sits just north of Tsim Sha Tsui, an older, denser district that holds some of Kowloon's most atmospheric street life, especially after dark.
Temple Street Night Market
Hong Kong's best-known night market, busiest and most atmospheric after dark, mixing clothing and souvenir stalls with fortune tellers and open-air food stalls — already covered in more detail in our best things to do guide.
The Jade Market
A dedicated covered market of jade jewellery and carvings, held in the morning and early afternoon rather than evening — quality and pricing vary enormously between stalls, so this is a browse-and-learn destination more than a place to buy blind.
Tin Hau Temple
A working temple dedicated to the sea goddess Tin Hau, sitting at the heart of the district and giving its name to the surrounding streets and square, which fills with hawkers and fortune tellers in the evening.
Old shophouses and the fruit market
Yau Ma Tei retains a number of pre-war tong lau shophouse buildings, alongside the Yau Ma Tei Fruit Market, a working wholesale market that's operated since the early 20th century.
