Kowloon City, up close

Kowloon City sits inland from Tsim Sha Tsui, a lower-rise district that escaped much of the redevelopment around it — partly a legacy of height restrictions from the old Kai Tak Airport flight path, lifted only after the airport closed in 1998.

A food destination in its own right

The district holds one of the city's densest concentrations of Thai restaurants, a legacy of a Thai-Chinese community that settled here, alongside a strong Chiu Chow (Teochew) food scene.

The old Kowloon Walled City

Once a notoriously dense, largely ungoverned settlement demolished in the early 1990s, the site is now Kowloon Walled City Park, landscaped in a Qing dynasty garden style with some original relics preserved.

Getting there

Less on the typical tourist route than neighbouring districts, which is largely the appeal — reachable by bus or a short taxi ride from Tsim Sha Tsui.
