Best areas to stay
Hong Kong is compact enough that almost anywhere on the MTR network puts you within 30–40 minutes of the main sights — so choosing a base is more about atmosphere and budget than pure logistics.
Hong Kong Island — Central, Sheung Wan, Causeway Bay
The Island holds the skyline views, the harbourfront, and most of the international dining and nightlife. Central and Admiralty are business-district convenient and pricier; Sheung Wan is a quieter, slightly more local alternative a few minutes further west.
Kowloon — Tsim Sha Tsui, Jordan, Mong Kok
Kowloon generally offers better value for similar quality, with Tsim Sha Tsui giving arguably the single best view of the skyline — looking back across the harbour at Hong Kong Island rather than being in the middle of it.
Quieter alternatives
Areas like Sai Ying Pun or Kennedy Town on the Island's western end offer a more residential, local feel while staying on the MTR line, well suited to longer stays or repeat visitors.
