Golf in Hong Kong

Given how little flat land Hong Kong has to spare, it has a surprisingly established golf history — a small number of courses, each with real character rather than an interchangeable resort feel.

Hong Kong Golf Club

Founded in 1889, one of the oldest golf clubs in Asia, with its main course in Fanling in the New Territories and a second, more central course on Hong Kong Island at Deep Water Bay. The Fanling course has hosted the Hong Kong Open, a long-running fixture on the Asian golf calendar.

Public and visitor access

Some clubs operate on a members-and-guests basis with limited public access, particularly on weekends, while others accommodate visiting golfers more readily on weekdays — worth checking specific access policies and booking well ahead rather than assuming walk-up availability.

Driving ranges

For a shorter, more casual session, multi-storey driving ranges exist within the urban area itself — a distinctly space-efficient Hong Kong solution to practising a land-hungry sport in a dense city.

Kau Sai Chau

A large public golf complex on an island off Sai Kung, with several courses and considerably more accessible public booking than the older private clubs, reachable by a dedicated ferry from Sai Kung.
